Move it Monday | Exercise Videos

VHS TapeThis week I thought I would showcase some exercise videos that I currently own.

I previously had tons of exercise VHS tapes when I was in high school. I had Tae-Bo, Abs & Buns of Steel, and I even owned a few Jane Fonda tapes! Oh yes I did 😉

Because I had to get with the times I “upgraded” to DVDs and now we have the digital purchase options as well.

I have not used my exercise videos in a long time and this week I realized why. Most of them are too long!

I do not have a lot of extra time and I am not a fan of waking up at the crack of dawn so I keep my exercises short (about 20-30 minutes). Most of the videos we own are 60 minutes or more! Why?!

I was determined to only use the exercise videos and I ended up just doing 3 days because I did not want to use just one set of the videos we had. Plus, the rest I could not fit in.

Moral: Get videos that fit into your lifestyle and not just because they are popular at the time!

Here’s how I moved this week:

Day 1:

I did the upper body circuit from Shaun T’s FOCUS T25 videos.

I love these videos! I do not regret owning these because you can get a very effective workout with this guy in just 25 minutes!

Day 2:

I did another T25 video and this time for the lower body. Now you can see what I meant by not wanting this post to showcase just one video series.

Day 3:

Today I went for something different with the P90X stretch video. Not the yoga video, which is over 1 hour!

Tony Horton (the man behind P90x) has jokes and he often made me laugh and lose my concentration with a stretch 😀 But he is fun and it was a really great stretch that I felt for the rest of the week. I just can’t commit to doing one hour every day. At least not at this point in life.

Here are a few other recommendations of current videos I have enjoyed:

Shaun T’s Rockin’ Body Workout Set – These are dance videos that target different muscles and have various time frames to work with. I bought this for my mom when it was on sale on Groupon because she loves to dance and we both loved it!

TapouT XT Workout Set– Mixed martial arts (MMA) inspired exercises developed by pro trainer and fitness expert Mike Karpenko. Think kicks, elbows, and sweat! There is a great mix of strength training and cardio with each exercise that are also specific to a target area. The average length of the exercises is about 45 minutes.

Zumba® – Dance fitness with a great mix of high and low intensity moves to give you an incredible sweat afterwards! I think by now you can tell I like to dance;-) All of their videos are fun and they are mostly about one hour long, however it feels like a party so the hour flies!

This week felt like a dud for me 🙁 It was a very busy week for my husband and I and we also went on vacation for the long labor day weekend. But I did have quite the adventurous vacation and I would say that together with 3 days of active exercise it was not that bad.

  1. Thanks for sharing! My go to workout videos are normally by Jillian Michaels. I love her videos. I was able to keep up with her for a few months…then Life happened. Im going to check out this other recommendations for my off days from the gym. I try to go to the gym at least 3x/week.

    • Yes! She can definitely get you to move;) that’s great that you go to the gym that often! I understand completely when Life happens and I just take it as a much needed pause to the routine. You got recharged and now you’re ready to rock and roll!

    • I feel you!! Belly fat is the most stubborn of all! Hope we can motivate each other to stay on track with a routine that will fight it once and for all;)

  3. I had so many exercise videos when I first started working out (5years ago)… But they were all aerobic style and not very effective ? now I use internet videos by fitnessblender, I love their variety and you can get in a good sweat session in 35 min ? your fitness week looks awesome??

  4. Try P90x3 if you haven’t already. The workouts are only 30 minutes long, so it’s pretty easy to fit into any schedule. It’s a great way of building strength and muscle. I highly recommend! 🙂 Btw, is T25 mostly cardio? I’ve tried Shaun T’s Insanity workout before and it almost killed me. I gave up on it after just a week lol.

    • Oh thanks for the recommendation! I like P90x it’s just too long lol. Didn’t realize they had the 3:) T25 is a nice mix of strength training and cardio; I would say it’s High Intensity Interval Training. But in just 25 minutes it’s just right. You won’t die lol!
