The Verdict on the Soak It Up! Box:
- Air Repair Complexion Boosting Moisturizer
If I didn’t already purchase a brand new container of my regular moisturizer I would have repurchased this! I do think it would work for all skin types so sensitive skinners like myself should not shy away. I actually saw improvement on my face and used the whole sample!
- Balance Me Congested Skin Serum
Repurchased! This worked amazingly well as a spot treatment.
- Coola Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint
Although it had no tint at all, I loved how smooth the application of this was. I used it during Labor Day weekend while I was out in the sun all day and I did not get the slightest burn. I would repurchase this.
- Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk – Natural Tint
This did not work for me at all. It sprays on white and then leaves white flakes behind. It works to add volume to a hairstyle so I might just keep using it for that, but I will not repurchase it.
- LAQA & Co. Cheeky Lip Tint in Humble Brag
I have been keeping this in my purse and I will probably check out other colors.
So let’s get on with the new box!
Theme: You’re Beautiful
Birchbox dedicated this month to their subscribers and picked out products that were inspired by them.
1. 100% Pure | Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream
I really like the 100% Pure products and I have heard great things about the eye cream. The caffeine in the eye cream is supposed to help reduce puffiness and together with the other ingredients it claims to help with fine lines and dark circles.
The eye cream is very moisturizing and soaks in nicely. It has a strong scent at first, but it dissipates. The smell is not bad though and it smells more like cocoa butter instead of coffee.
2. Davines | Ol All in One Milk
This is a leave-in treatment that is supposed to help with shine, volume, detangling, frizz, and heat protection. The product comes in a spray bottle, but instead of spraying straight on to my hair I sprayed it on my hands and then applied it. The product does look like milk because it sprays on like a white lotion. It also has a very nice fresh fragrance, but can be a bit strong at first.
I applied it on freshly washed hair and it left my hair feeling soft and more manageable without any product residue. I will have to see how it works against humidity and as a heat protectant, but so far I like it.
Bonus: Davines | Ol Sulfate-free Shampoo and Conditioner
The set claims to hydrate and soften hair as well as boost shine. The scent is the same as the All in One Milk which is very nice because I do not like to mix up so many different fragrances together. The shampoo lathered very well and the conditioner was thick and moisturizing. My hair felt soft while it was still wet and the softness and scent maintained after it dried. I will try to get as much use from the samples to test out if the effects are long-lasting.
3. Harvey Prince | Sincerely
I am terrible at describing scents so I will quote how it’s described in the packaging:
“…delicate notes of South African Freesia, Japanese Orange Flower, Moroccan Rose, Turkish Cyclamen, and Indian Tuberose. Hints of spicy Indonesian Clove Bud trickle in the fresh Spanish Mandarin and French Bergamot while deep and intriguing Lebanese Cedarwood and Australian Sandalwood transport you away.”
Very poetic and if you get an idea of what it smells like from that then you are amazing!
My first thought when I smelled it was, “baby cologne”. LOL
I like delicate, fresh scents and I wore this one right away and will continue to wear it because the scent lasted through the next day. A full size bottle ranges from $26-$55, so if it is at the lower end or on sale then I might get it for myself or as a gift for someone in the future.
4. POP Beauty | POP Portfolio Eyeshadow –Sugar Plum
These colors are very beautiful and pigmented and they did last through a long night in hot, humid weather.
I am not the best with makeup application and I usually end up going very light. I think the eye makeup looked better when my eyes were open than closed 😛
I will definitely continue to use this palette and I will try to play with different looks if I can think of more. I don’t think I will need to repurchase because I do not wear makeup often so the sample will last a long time.
5. treStique | Correct & Cover Concealer Crayon – Bisque
This concealer was darker than my skin tone and for makeup to actually conceal I think it would have to be your skin tone or a bit lighter.
I gave it a try anyway and I was right; it did not conceal anything and it dried and caked up around the eyes. But I will not give up without a fight! I will try to see if this works for contouring.
And there is another fun inclusion in this box…
BONUS: A personal code was provided to take 20% off any purchase at Birchbox of $35 or more. Sounds like a deal to me!
All of the samples, with the exception of the perfume, are a very descent size and they may last me quite a while. I do not mind at all because I like them all 🙂
