Tea Time

coffee with heart

Today is National Coffee Day and I thought it would be the perfect time to chat over tea 😛

I enjoy the smell and taste of coffee, but it is not something I can have any time of the day because it gives me “the jitters”. Also, if I drink it I have to put sugar or cream or milk or all of the above because it is too bitter for me to drink straight.

Tea, on the other hand, I can have whenever, even before bedtime, and I can have a sound mind and body; with no rapid heart palpitations.

“Let’s catch up over coffee” is usually what we hear when we want to relax and have a nice conversation with an old, or new, friend. I liked the idea of bringing this concept over to YOUnfolded as a means for me to unfold what is happening in my life to all of you; my old and new friends 🙂

So, let’s meet up over tea!

Tea Ceramic Mug

If we were to have a tea date, I would invite you over to my house to show you the dining set we finally received!

I would tell you how we went to a family owned business that we have purchased furniture from before, but this time they really dropped the ball on their customer service. We ordered a server, dining table, and chairs from them in April of this year and when the pieces were delivered, some were broken, others were missing screws, and our dining table did not come at all!

Excuses were made about the shipments being backordered or delivered broken to their warehouse and at one point they cancelled our order altogether without informing us. We would have been more patient about the whole process if they would have called us to keep us up-to-date. But we were the ones calling them and each time it was a different story.

So, here we are in September, our dining set has been delivered; which also was delivered 3 days later than what they mentioned and, again, when WE called after they had not shown up they told us they had to change the delivery date. Plus, the table is not the one we chose, but overall it looks beautiful and we did not want to deal with that company again!

Samurai Chai Mate Tea

For our tea date, we would sit at our cozy dining room and I would serve you my favorite tea (Samurai Chai Mate loose leaf tea from Teavana) in the ceramic cup (pictured above) that my grandmother brought back to us from Guatemala (where my mom’s side of the family is from).

I would tell you how much I have truly come to love blogging and how I often dream about it as my full-time venture. With my current full-time job and trying to have a life outside of work, it has been tough for me to even draft out all the ideas I have listed. But I am taking it day-by-day and enjoying the ride instead of letting it become too overwhelming.

I would also express how I try to catch up on every post on all the blogs I follow and also on the blogs of my followers because I want to show the same love and support that I have received right back.

And speaking of support, I would tell you how I was contemplating making my blog an award-free blog in the beginning because I do not like to toot my own horn. I prefer to lift others up and encourage them and that is when I realized that the blog awards are a great opportunity to spread the love to others and uplift and thank those that nominated me for their generosity.

I would tell you about Tasha and ShitHappens2U because, although they nominated me for awards I have already received, I would want you to know about their wonderful blogs and how you should check them out.

You would also see the new haircut I got last night and about how upset I was when I left the hair salon. I was charged double for my usual (wash, cut, blow-dry) apparently because they charge by experience and the lady that cut my hair this time was supposedly more experienced. I was angry because, first of all, I went with my hair already washed and all I got was a trim of the cut I already had and a quick blow-dry. Also, I feel as though it should have been something I was informed of ahead of time because I did let the hairdresser know that I have been there before and who I usually go to.

But I would simply vent with you and show my gratitude for not having a complete disaster on my head! I would also talk about how I am planning on dying my hair for the first time in my life and how I’m going for the color purple.

Lastly, you will see my complete and utter excitement when I tell you I am going to Colombia for the first time in a few weeks!! (October 16-24). My husband is from Colombia and we are going so we can spend time with family over there. They are all so wonderful and are planning out where they will be taking us around!

I will be sure to take as many pics as possible to share the trip later on with you 😉

I plan on leaving some posts scheduled ahead of time to “keep in touch” and I will miss visiting your place on the internet while I’m gone.

I would end by telling you that I have enjoyed our chat over tea so much that I plan to make it a monthly date between us 🙂

What will you have to share during our Tea Time?

Until next time…

Much Love,

Nena

  1. Wow. Your blogs are very positive. That is pretty cool, m’dear. I would honestly rather listen to you talk than for me to share anything. I have things to share, sure, but I would probably bore you with stories about home health care and the intricacies of why having a day off is a blessing. I love my job, don’t get me wrong, but who wants to hear about someone working for 13 days straight (granted, they are relatively short days, but still)?

    • “One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure”. Not that your days are garbage (lol), but what I mean is that people can be inspired by what we least expect about ourselves. I’ve read some of your posts already and you have an amazing way with words! I’m sure you can make a seemingly mundane day seem like heaven;)

  2. Thank you for the lovely chat over tea. I thank it’s wonderful that you get to spend time with family…and that you get to travel. My sister went for the purple hair look. If I ever died my hair…I would get blonde highlights.

Charging by experience? Huh? Well think of it as a way to bless others when you give a little extra. I look forward to another tea! Thank you for always brightening my day and keeping up with my blog as well. It means so much to me and always brings a smile to my face…so thank you! 🙂

  3. Oh Nena, I am glad I am not the only one who has Tea Time instead of coffee time….(although I have turned it into a regular weekly post as yet. I simple don’t like the smell of coffee. I gag. I love any kind of tea but can’t drink much regular tea because of the tannin in it. Bad for the kidneys and I only have one.
So I drink herbal teas and lattes.
I always felt left out when everyone talks about taking a coffee break. Or when they love to go to Starbucks. Phew….I seldom cross the door before the smell turns me around again.
I don’t blame you a bit for getting upset at the hair salon. It was wrong for them not to tell you that they were more expensive.
    I enjoyed my visit here.
    Love Sarah

    • Hi, lovely Sarah:) Honestly, herbal teas are my fave. They have such great flavors so no sugar is needed and they are caffeine-free. I usually prefer lattes, but I’m lactose-intolerant so I keep them to a minimum:/ Not liking the smell of coffee does help it work as a repellent in your case:) Especially since coffee can have the tendency to be harsher on the kidneys than tea:/
The salon situation just led me to not go back there again. Thankfully, I found out my regular hair dresser does house calls so I plan to start doing that instead:)
      I always enjoy our visits:)
      “See” you again soon!

  4. Your haircut looks fabulous! And congrats on the trip! I am so jelly! I love tea as well. I love the smell of coffee and it looks so great but then I drink it and it makes me jittery and the taste is nowhere near what I expect, no matter how much fanciness they put on it. LOL.
I understand people making award free blogs after a week of several awards nominations myself, I enjoyed getting to know my followers and them getting to know me but they can take some time to do. It was a great way to see other blogs though for newbies and uplift others as you said. I enjoyed them so I am grateful that you continue to uplift others no matter you decision. Kudos!

    • No need to be jelly! Like they say, you will be there in spirit right? LOL Yes, all the fanciness, yet it is still coffee haha. I have come across some that smell so delicious without cream/milk/sugar, but I can not take it down that way:p
The awards do take time to do, but, like you, I have enjoyed it because it does hold me accountable to keep up with the blogging as well:)

  5. Your hair looks fabulous Nena, I’m pretty sure your husband will love you more with your new look 🙂 Have a great adventure in Colombia! Looking forward to seeing your pictures of it. Have a great day always! 🙂

  6. Hello Nena,

    Such beautiful pictures.

I agree. I used to consume way-too-much coffee when I was working. For a while( about 3 years) I didn’t take any coffee and tea. I stop taking tea and then again start. I don’t have any problems in giving them up. Our family drinks tea mostly.

This is a wonderful post. I hope you will have more time for blogging in days to come and I also hope you enjoy the visit to columbia.

My best wishes, love and light to you, your family and friends 🙂

    Anand <3

    • Thank you, Anand:)
3 years! That is great! It’s good to not have it be a problem. I myself like to drink it every so often, but, like you, I can do without it if I choose to;)
I hope to have more time to blog as well. Working on making a schedule of some sort. Thank you again for your wonderful support:)

    • I love it!! We have turned so many people to it, too:) I just hope the tin is still there safe and sound; I know it will be missed for now?

  7. I love this post! Coffee and I have love/hate relationship. Like you, I love the taste and smell but I hate how I feel afterwards. Recently, I started drinking more tea and so far Earl Grey is my favorite. Something about the smell puts me in a good mood. Colombia sounds exciting! My husband’s family is from Holland, we’ll make it over there..one day 🙂

    • Earl Grey is really great and I agree about the smell:p Hopefully, one day you will get to visit Holland:) Sounds like a fascinating place to get to know.

  8. What a cute concept! I’m a huge coffee drinker myself, but I think it’s the idea of taking time to sit down and have conversation that is so valuable. It can be coffee, tea, food- anything, but what really makes it special is the company you are in 🙂 I enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to more. (By th way, the purple hair is awesome!!! I used to have blue myself- hehe!) ~amandaidance

    • The company is definitely what makes any activity worthwhile:) Thank you for enjoying a hot beverage with me and I also look forward to mutual visits:)
And blue!! That is awesome! Blue was another color I was contemplating at one point:p

  9. Aww, I can see you’ve got your hands full Nena. Ah, I hope you have a lovely time in Columbia. And you know, maybe someday you’ll get to love coffee too. I love mine black with a pinch of milk, but then again, I’m a fan of bitter things?

    • Maybe it will grow on me;) My husband can drink it black and I learned to like it with just a bit of sugar as opposed to before it needed to be with milk or cream. So I might get there someday?

  10. Fellow tea time mate! Amazing post, and I completely agree with you on sipping tea at any time of the day. The online delivery was mortifying; I never order anything online because of such possibilities. I once heard of a person receiving stones sealed in a phone box when he ordered a smartphone! And the hairdressing salon was absolutely ridiculous!! Charging as per experience?? What on earth is that??? Absolutely cheap and horrifying behavior, the nerve to not bother informing you about it! My mom went through a similar experience: she got her hair cut and the lady blow dried her hair without having the decency to inform her that it’s an additional cost! You should demand your change back, you’re a regular customer and you are aware that this was never the case. I am stunned to see the greedy manner of respectable businesses. Thieves!!

    • Thank you, as always, for your support! The furniture place was a local business and as much as I like to support our local businesses, this one is just not one of them:/ And yes, I’m going to talk to the manager of the salon to express my grievance and kindly suggest that they make how they charge more clear if in fact that’s how they work; by experience.
That’s so crazy about the stones!! Like you said, people can be such thieves!!

  11. “Going for coffee” has become part of our cultural lexicon, and I use it myself despite the fact that I drink neither coffee nor tea. I like the smell of coffee though, and the ritual of tea.

  12. I LOVE this! Wish i could have real tea time with you! Love your teacups! This was truly a pleasure to read, thanks for a nice tea break and AWESOME that you get to go to Columbia. Can’t wait for the pictures! And thanks again for your nomination for my blog. I do appreciate it! Yes, blogging full time from home would be a AWESOME job! We can keep dreaming, you never know 🙂

    • It would be so awesome to have real tea time with you:) and yes! We have to keep dreaming:) You deserve the nomination and any others that come your way!

  13. Awww, first of all, thanks for the shout out!! That’s really sweet of you. I LOVE the smell of coffee as well but I’m not a coffee drinker. However, I do love a good latte every now and again…but straight coffee is a no-no for me. I’m a tea drinker as well. Sorry to hear about the furniture…wonder if you could just get your money back? That’s what I would probably do. Good customer service is really important when making a purchase.

I think your hair looks great, btw. We’ll truly miss ya when you’re gone. Have a wonderful time in Columbia!

    • Yes, tea takes precedence! Lol I forgot to mention that they informed us that we couldn’t get our money back. We knew going in that they didn’t do refunds, but we didn’t have a problem with them before so we thought things will be all good:/
It’s the last time we will go there and honestly I think if you believe in your products and service then you would have a refund policy in place. So we will be weary of “no refund” places from now on.
I will miss catching up with u too!
