A Little Bit of Me Unfolded

Dragons Loyalty AwardI have been nominated for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award by the gorgeous beauty Ryane. She also tagged me for the Sweater Weather Tag. Again, check out her beautiful and fun blog.

The history of dragons has mainly been that of a depiction of evil, with just a few exceptions. More recently, we have seen dragons portrayed as a symbol of true and unconditional loyalty, like in How to Train Your Dragon and Game of Thrones.

The Dragon’s Loyalty Award is an honorary award because it stands for the loyalty you display towards your readership. Thank you, Ryane, for this award 🙂

Infinity Dreams Award

Beauty and brains, Deniza, nominated me for the Infinity Dreams Award. She’s got so much knowledge and expertise she freely shares about health and fitness so she is highly worth checking out.

Dreamers are the kind of people that ignite passion and stir up hope in achieving the seemingly unattainable. To be an infinite dreamer is to never lose sight until the ultimate picture is realized. Dreams are ever-changing based on our growth and experiences, but they should never cease. For once hope expires, so does life.

The Infinity Dreams Award symbolizes being that breath of life that catalyzes faith in reaching new heights. Thank you, Deniza, for this humbling nomination.

Rules for the Infinity Dreams Award:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back.
  • Post the award badge and rules.
  • Tell 11 facts about yourself.
  • Answer the questions that were set for you to answer.
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers and set questions for them.

With these nominations I have the opportunity to share some things about me.

11 Things About Me You May Not Have Known

  1. I made a vow to wait for marriage. My husband and I dated for 7 years before we married and he was a pure and patient gentleman the entire time.

  2. I have recently been getting into makeup and being fashionable. I am in my 30s and I never bothered with what I put on my face or how I got dressed, but I am really enjoying trying it out now.

    Nena with Blue Eyeliner
Me after experimenting with eyeshadows and a blue eyeliner
  3. I have never dyed my hair and I am seriously considering doing it for the first time. The color I am adoring is Aubergine (French for eggplant); yes it’s purple.
  4. I don’t drink alcohol at all. I do not like the taste or smell, but the main reason I do not drink is because I saw the negative effects of it at a very young age and for me it is not worth it. I do enjoy cooking with wine though.
  5. I have always loved singing, and I still do, but I can’t seem to build the confidence to make something serious out of it. I can do Karaoke just for the fun of it, but I purposely play around with my voice because I do not want others to hear what I really sound like.
  6. Going along with singing, a friend made a CD of original songs years ago and I was featured in 2 of them. I sang and “rapped”; quotations added because I don’t know if I would call what I did rapping LOL
  7. When I have a disagreement with someone I may come off as strong and I do not shed a tear in front of them. But once I’m home and on my own or with my hubby I cry like a baby. I don’t like feeling angry or upset with anyone.
  8. I was teaching myself how to play the piano and then I started to take lessons in my early 20s. At my first recital, I was so incredibly nervous that I messed up completely and just walked off the stage. I was so embarrassed and felt like such a failure that I have not touched a piano key since. Deep inside, I still desire to play it and one day, I will start again.

  9. Though I have not had proper training in dance, I have a huge passion for it and I have had the pleasure in the past of choreographing dances for Quinceañeras. I also started and led a dance group in church where we did hip hop, liturgical dances, and even used small flags as props for interpretative dances.
I would like to be like this when I grow up (I actually did feel like this next to those that were about 10 years younger than me in the dance group):
  10. I love my real name. Yentl. Yes, from the Barbara Streisand movie.

Yentl is also Yiddish for “kind”. Unfortunately, in Spanish it is almost impossible to say and understand, hence the nickname Nena.

  11. This one is usually the big shocker for everyone and I do not think it should be something that is assumed or expected; I do not want to have children. I do love and enjoy being around children, but for reasons that I will not go into I do not picture myself with children of my own.

The last fact is a hard one for me to say because it hurts when I get looked at with pity or as if I am a horrible person for not wanting children. But everyone has a different view of how they will share their love with the world and live their life. I decided to expose this fact about me as a means to open up our eyes to the assumptions and expectations we often have of others and that we need to consider their happiness and what they define as the source of it.

Deniza’s Questions for the Infinity Dreams Award:

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

My grandparents from my dad’s side; may they both rest in peace. I know that is 2 people, but I would like to know about their history. Found out from my mom recently that they both eloped and no one seems to know where their families are from.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

Waking up to a new day. The future is not guaranteed to anyone and the fact that I am able to rise to a new day is a huge blessing and honor for me.

What’s the best book you’ve read this year?

This year I have finished reading only 2 books so far 🙁 I would have to say it is The Fault in our Stars.

What’s your favorite song at the moment?

The song that has been playing over and over in my head, and the one that I have been singing since I saw Pitch Perfect 2, is Flashlight by Jessie J. Love her voice!

If you were to eat only one dish until you die, what would you choose?

Again…pasta 😛

Have you ever danced in the rain?

No, but I would like to 🙂 I have played in the rain and snorkeled in the beautiful blue waters of Bora Bora in the rain as well 🙂

Bora Bora Snorkeling
Can you believe it was cloudy and sprinkling? My face is classic LOL

As long as there is no lightning, then I am good.

What cheers you up?

Having a rest day with my loves; hubby and girls 🙂

What’s your favorite word?

Papanicolao LOL!! It is Spanish for pap smear. It is just such a funny word to me and I laugh each time I hear it 😛

Who is your hero?

If you could bring one musician back from the dead, who would it be and why?

There are so many that have passed away tragically and it is hard to pick just one. I would instead say to bring back those that have intentionally taken their lives in an effort to instill back hope and life.

What animal best represents you and why?

An animal that I have always loved is the black panther because they just look so mystical to me. But if I have to go with what animal represents me I would say the dog.

Leia and Zoey

They are:

All about their pack and protecting them

Often times funny with the silly things they do

Zoey Dog Photobomb

In pure bliss just by being with those they love

Willing to do whatever it takes to make the members of their pact happy

Compassionate for they seem to sense what you feel and reflect the sentiment back

A piece of heaven on Earth; Dog is God spelled backwards after all

I would not go as far as to say I am “heaven sent”, but I do strive to demonstrate the heavenly grace and love that I have experienced onto everyone I come in contact with.

Now I would like to know some interesting facts about you! The following are my nominees for both awards above:

Hit Below the Belt…hard

Bliss in the City

Multilingual Shades

Smitha Easter

Sarah’s Attic of Treasures

  2. A night out or a night in?
  3. Write on paper or type on a computer?
  4. A shower or a bath? (hopefully, it is at least one of them 😛 )
  5. Home workouts or gym?
  6. Soup or salad?
  7. Netflix or cable TV?

    • Haha! Yes, pasta is so yummy?I also have said I won’t ever dye it until it turns grey but I have really been digging the burgundy that it’s been calling my name lol

  1. Oh My God Yentl is such a cool name! I’m sorry I didn’t reply to this before, I was working 12 hours a day for a week and only had enough time to “like” your post. Also, i want to say that you are not a horrible person for not wanting to have children! It’s your life, and nobody has the right to decide whether you should want to have kids or no. I may be too young still, but i stand by my decision to not want kids ever. Ofcourse, I have a completely different reason for that, but the point is that nobody should force their ideas on you. And your dog is adorable!!!! Thank you so much for the nomination! 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for the nominations. I have been in the hospital a few days…but I am back up and running. I will get you some answers soon. Also, loved reading what you wrote and finding out more about you.

  3. Congratulations on all the awards! I enjoyed the post and the pictures and reading the facts!
I just colored my hair burgundy…it is awesome…I say go for it! 🙂 Looking forward to an ‘after’ coloring picture! 😀

  4. Heya Nena or should I say Yentl, you and your husband is blessed to be together, and you should play again that piano coz someday you might have to, NO FEAR, lucky you have the privilege to learn how to play it..go girl ??????

  5. You shared some amazing facts about yourself. I could only imagine(one of my favorite worship songs) what that felt like at your recital. Singing for me like blogging is therapeutic I sing almost anything except for opera lol. I also believe we as a society have to get passed assuming if your not a parent of children something is wrong with you. Bottom line you must do what works for you and your hubby. I love your blogs

    • I love that song! Did a dance to it at church and it was one of the favorites:) I’m on the same page with you about singing; except I do like to pretend to sing opera occasionally lol
Thank you for always paying a visit:) I love your real and authentic posts as well!

  6. Congratulations dear. Reading your answers, we really have a lot common! I share your attitude towards marriage and I don’t like alcohol as well. And I love your honesty about having children. While I do want to have one on my own, my sister (35 years old) has decided not to and our family has never made a negative comment on that. I get angry and sad when I hear people saying that a woman’s life or even a marriage is not fulfilled without having children…. >.< Anyways, wish you a wonderful day and start of the week :*

    • We connected so well for a reason☺️ It still is hard for me to say I don’t want children for the same reasons you just mentioned:/ Thank you for being so understanding:) The support really means a lot to me?

  7. Hi Nena – Your item 11 fact was interesting! I have had two children, both of whom presented serious issues at various times. When these “issues” come up in later discussions with friends, I am often asked “If you could have your time over again, you would still have them right?” After I have hesitated for a few moments, they always look at me in horror and exclaim something like “You have to think about it?” Yes I do because, although I love them both dearly, they both caused huge problems so my question to myself is “Would I want to go through it all again?” As at this moment, I am still thinking about it! 🙂

    • Your honesty and openness is so refreshing and very much appreciated 🙂 And I understand your thoughts and view of the question. It’s not whether you still want your children, it’s whether you would want to go through pain (and everything that comes with it) all over again if it can be changed with one decision. Most people would also think twice about it if they viewed it a bit differently and it doesn’t make anyone a horrible person. Personally, it shows integrity and transparency and those are honorable and rare qualities.

  8. Nena you are a very brave woman other than talented for it takes courage to be so open about not wanting kids! I’m glad I was so right about your blog. ..It gives our so much honesty and grace!
Thank you for yet another nomination, I’m glad someone enjoys my words!
    Keep rocking my lovely darlingxx

    • You are so wonderful and your blogs are full of honesty, encouragement, and grace as well, which is why you were nominated yet again! I’ll rock along with you?

  9. Thank you my dear Yentl for nominating me on these awards, I really am grateful, there are people like you who really made me glad as you thought of me worthy of any awards. I will try still to respond but I was not able to respond to any award yet except tell my heartfelt thanks, please have patience and understanding to someone like me. 🙂 I am excited to know more about you, now I know we both love singing (although I think you have a lovelier voice) and we don’t drink alcohol. By the way, Barbra Streisand is my favorite singer and I love the movie Yentl. With regards to you not wanting children, I think it is a choice and you didn’t have to explain yourself. I have friends who also didn’t want one and we should embrace each others choices and differences. I think you and your husband are really blessed to have each other. Keep loving! God bless. 🙂

    • You can take whatever time you need as I also have taken a while to respond to these awards myself;-)
You are very worthy of all the appreciation and warm regards coming your way for you are tremendously encouraging with your kind words.
Maybe we can do a collaboration together; I rap, you sing LOL
How wonderful that you are familiar with the movie Yentl! Barbara Streisand is great;)
Thank you once again for your support:) We do feel very blessed to have one another and the relationship that we have:) Many blessings to you and yours as well!

  10. Ooooh Nena how fast you type!! Congrats on the lovely award! Nice post will answer the qs l8r, kinda beat!
    I know this is Starbucks fueled! 🙂 🙂 🙂 :p Admit it!
Pl read, comment!! How to salvage your work after a fiasco bit.ly/1OdE6T This is the solution.

    • LOL! You are a trip! I would love to hear your answers, but yes, you might need some Starbucks to get to it;) I’m going to check your post now!
I tried earlier through Twitter and had trouble.
