Yankee Candle Pumpkin
The candle we are currently burning on our new server

The month of September was a month to Get In Order at our house. There are still many things that need to get done, but we have made great progress.

We took a few rooms at a time and our main focus was on the living and dining room to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere for our family and friends.

Let’s start with the living room…

We got rid of the piece of furniture that we were just filling up with random stuff and replaced it with a new couch from Ikea decorated with pillows we bought from Amazon.

Now, let’s dine…

As we were fighting to get our dining room set, we were using an old dining table that seats only 4. For additional seating we were using a folding table and folding chairs for when we had family or friends over.

Once we got our dining set, we went to TJ Maxx to get a table runner; vase fillers to add color to our glass vases and wicker baskets; side tables to have a place for our bamboo plant; and canvases with heartfelt quotes that bring life to the room.

One of the things we are working on in our master bedroom is creating a vanity just for me 🙂

This is what the vanity area looked like before and all the drawers were empty

We still need to mount a mirror, add lights, and buy a chair/stool, but this is how we cleared and organized the space…

My husband and I had fun taking all the pictures and all along we had a shadow…

The challenge I would like to take a hold of this month is to learn at least some of the basics of photography.

Most of the pictures on YOUnfolded are from yours truly with tons of help and direction from my photography connoisseur of a husband. But I would really like to get to the point where ALL the pictures are taken by me and not have to bother the hubby to adjust the settings of the camera to how I would like it.

Learning photography will also be tons of fun because I would be able to join my husband in his photo gigs as his assistant; something he would really love, too 🙂

I know that I will not be able to learn all there is to know about photography in a month, but what I will do is build the habit of carrying a camera with me wherever I go and capture photos of everything that catches my eye.

I plan on reading about how to use a camera and I will take upon an October photo challenge I found on Pinterest:

October Photo-A-Day 2015 Challenge

Any resources or tips you would recommend on becoming a photo expert? I’m all ears/eyes!

Much Love,

Nena

  1. Nena, What a Wonderful Time you both had decorating your home. I love your living room. I love the openness. The Bare Floors. The Huge window and all of that light coming in.
    Your kitchen table is beautiful.
I also plan on doing the Photography Challenge. For November. Now if I just had a working camera. It is old and is starting to mess up.
But I will have fun any way.
    Hugs.

    • Thank you so much for all the compliments:) Makes us so happy for our house to feel open to others:) We did have a lot of fun and we are still working on more things.
My husband has told me that the best camera is the one you have with you, no matter the features. So yes, have fun with it and share your findings when you’re done:) I’d love to see them.

  2. What an amazing re-decorating job you & your husband did!! I loved your dining area & your new couch, but most of all I loved your shadow… :))) Keep up with the photo challenge & reading, it’s definitely worth it!! I am sending you positive energy!! haha

  3. The Interior designing skills there are on point, Nena! Absolutely love it, the house is so spacious and radiates warmth and comfort! Also, the photography skills are amazing! I really need a few tips from you and your husband; the paintings, and the angles at which the cushion pictures were taken, were really catchy with a really good focus point allowing me to view the stitches. Even the chandelier! Awestruck. Congratulations!!! 🙂

  4. I really like the way you redecorated. I’m always in TJ Maxx and we have a store called Home Goods that I can’t stay out of too. As far as photography, I keep my camera with me everywhere I go. I consider myself an amateur since I don’t really know technical stuff about cameras but I just shoot what I like. I usually just go with my gut feeling. If it feels right, then I know it’ll be a good picture. I like your photos and your photography style 🙂

    • Thank you:) Yes, Home Goods can be an addiction! I am the same as you with photography. I just point and shoot whatever catches my eye and I play with different angles, too. My hubby is the tech expert lol I would like to know more about that, though, so it can improve the look of things;)

  5. Wow!!

Your house has undergone quite a metamorphosis!

Your dog is so cute <3

And that quote is so beautiful.

The pictures are all beautiful. You already are a wonderful photographer 🙂

    Love and light <3

    Anand 🙂

  6. Whoa Nena…your house is lovely!!! You did a really great job and the pics are awesome!! Looks like you’ve been doing some shopping, eh? I really love the way you decorated the place. I didn’t notice the gray couch in the first photo…is it new as well?

    • Thank you, Tasha:) Yes the couch is new from Ikea. We planned to get it for a while, but we worked at getting out things little by little. We did just a bit of shopping to add our own touches and at a bargain;)

      • You have a good eye for decorating. We are getting ready to have a house built and I need ideas for once it’s finished. Guess I better get an early start on it so that it’s not so overwhelming once we move in. Loved this post Nena!

    • Oh, Shiva, thank you! It does help when the two of us have similar taste; it makes decorating our house not only fun, but also a breeze!
