Just a Few Blog Tips

Apple Home Office

My first blog post was in July of this year and I remember feeling apprehensive about what the whole blogging experience would be like. I experienced my first mishap with WordPress right off the bat because I scheduled my post for a particular time and it ended up posting at the wrong time.

I realized later it was my fault because I did not have my blog set to my time zone 😛

I actually didn’t realize it posted at the wrong time until I received a notification of my very first “like”. I was excited because someone actually read and liked my post! But I was also frustrated that I couldn’t make WordPress work like I wanted it to.

Blogging has been quite the adventure and I have enjoyed every moment. Expressing my thoughts and sharing bits of me has helped me come out of my shell and bloom. However, I would not have been able to feel as confident and motivated to give to others if it were not for you…my readers.

The best part of blogging is the community of people out there, bloggers and non-bloggers, that support the freedom and beauty of expression.

People like Deniza, Sanjana, and Smiling Away Food Allergies that so graciously nominated me for the Blogger Recognition Award. They are all amazing bloggers, advocates, and encouragers that are worthy of following so I would recommend checking out their sites.

There are also people like Keshia Anderson; she follows my blog posts via Facebook and expressed her heart felt desire to nominate me for an award as well. Thank you so much, Keshia, for the humbling gesture and may you be blessed a million times over for your willingness to give 🙂

And I can’t fail to mention, Anand, better known as Vibrant, for the friendly gesture of extending another nomination for the Liebster Award over my way. He shines a bright light with his words that can remedy the darkest days so if you haven’t stopped by his blog yet, go do so.

Liebster AwardExposing yourself to the world through writing can be difficult enough without including the learning curve for managing a site.

Here are a few technical blog tips and links that have helped me find my way around WordPress and improve my blogging experience:

  1. How to add a photo gallery like I did in my Challenge | Photography post
  2. How to Reduce Your Bounce Rate
  3. How to add multiple pages to a post like I did in my 33 Questions post
  4. Pingback to alert a fellow WordPress blogger of a post you mentioned them in (I used this to notify my nominees for this post; link to a specific post on their site instead of linking to their main URL/site name)
  5. WordPress Smilies Commands
  6. How to Add a Downloadable Printable to a Blog Post
  7. Adding Titles and Alt Text to Images
  8. WordPress.com versus WordPress.org

Hope this list helps some of you like it has me 🙂

Ultimately, the key to a successful blog is being a giver like those I mentioned above. Visiting and sharing your genuine thoughts and “likes” on other blogs will result in the reciprocation of that same love back to you.

In the spirit of giving, I am going to pay forward the Liebster Award nomination to all my nominees for the Blogger Recognition Award.

The following are the rules for the Blogger Recognition Award:

  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  • Write a post and give a brief story of how your blog started.
  • Give a piece of advice or two to new bloggers.
  • Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to.
  • Let the nominees know you have nominated them and provide a link to the nomination details.

*For the rules on the Liebster Award visit Anand’s post or click on the Liebster Award image above. If you have already received either nomination previously, then feel free to use the idea of paying it forward to at least one blogger.

  1. I agree Lena! It has always been the thought in every Likes, Shares, and Comments that counts. Blogging has been both an amazing and challenging experience. Congratulations for making this far in your blogging journey!

  2. Ah! Blogging mistakes, we’ve all done them. One of the first few things I started doing before blogging was finding out how to blog and how to promote my blog. To be honest, I’m still learning. But this is such a wonderful learning experience. Sure you agree.

    • Yes:) I did the same thing! I usually plan ahead 3 steps before I even take one:p I’m also still learning so much but you’re right…it has been wonderful?

  4. I was so focused on building my blog these days that I kind of missed ALL the blog posts :/ I have so much to catch up to! Anyways, thank you so much for these kind words, dear Nena. I am so grateful that we have met and wish we could meet some time in the future. It is really rare to find like-minded people nowadays! Fun fact: Whenever I type in “y”, google chrome shows me instantly youunfolded.com. That’s how much I love your writing! 😀 Have a great time in Columbia :*

    • I feel the same way about you?I would love to have the opportunity to meet you in person one day! That’s so sweet about your fun fact! It’s funny, but it’s the same with askdeniza on my end lol

    • I am so happy we connected, too!! So I can be a broken record as well lol I look up to you as a blogger so reading such kind words from you is such an encouragement and makes me all warm and gooey inside lol Really, though, I am touched by your words and honored to call you my blog buddy; would that make you my “bluddy”? LOL

      • Bluddy’s for life!! Thank you Nena! I’m happy that you feel the same way. 🙂 Have fun while you visit your family. You seem to be a better plane rider than myself haha.

  6. Congrats on your awards! 🙂 and thank you for your tips! lol I have been using WordPress for the last year and I’m still learning how to navigate this “blog thing” but that’s half the fun, you learn something new, apply it and presto! it actually works! 🙂 I’m glad we’ve crossed paths and have managed to do so on such a supportive platform. My time with WordPress and its members has been nothing but positive 🙂

  8. Thanks for sharing the tips and tricks you have learned! It can be so frustrating trying to figure out how to do all the neat things that more seasoned bloggers do to their posts to make them great.

  9. Thanks so much for the nomination Nena. I sound like a broken record, but I don’t care: I’m so glad that we were able to connect! You’ve always been such an inspiration, and you deserve each of these rewards. Thanks for always being so bubbly, and helpful with these wonderful tips! You definitely continue to evolve as a blogger, and I’m happy to continue reading more of your work! 🙂

  10. You’re the best Nena! I’m so glad we met via Blogging U; it’s honestly the best thing that’s happened to me. I was nothing before that. One month taught me so much, introduced me to so many crazy-inspiring bloggers who are so supportive of my writing. No matter how much you recommend me, I’m nowhere near you! I’ve yet got lots to learn. Thank you again Nena, and wish you lots of luck! 🙂

    • Thank you? We all learn from one another? We each have something different we bring to the table so you’re more of a role model than you give yourself credit for?

  11. Love your blog – truly an inspiration. Some days I wonder if I’ll get this blog “thing” figured out. It’s the set up/menu/widgets that get me beyond frustrated. I make one change and boom, I’ve lost a menu lol. I’ll keep trying. Blessings!

    • Thank you so very much for the dear compliment and I love I’ve connected with bloggers like you?
Oh yes! Menus/widgets can be tricky and if you change themes, there goes everything you set up? We’ll keep trying together and keep each other posted on our findings?

  12. Thank you for the award nomination and this information is so useful I already have one person in mind who has ‘blogger envy’ like me because we have been struggling to figure out such amazing tips like the ones you just shared. 🙂

    • Thanks , Lauren! I love your blog and all the helpful tips you provide. You have come a long way and your wisdom shines through. Thank you for generously sharing your experiences to encourage “young bloggers” like myself?

  13. Serendipity!!!!Nena I was going to contact you to ask few questions about blogging for I recently started myself as you know!I can’t believe you posted this, how very generous of you to share what you learnt!
There are few things I’m still trying to learn but I guess that’s part of the process!
    Anyway…Thanks a million!
    Blessings from London Town xxx

    • I read your mind? Still learning myself but any way that I can help, I’m here☺️ Feel free to contact me if you still have questions.
