Themed parties have been a major part of my family ever since I can remember. Ninja turtles, Disney Princesses, Sesame Street, you name it! Complete with piñatas and party favor bags filled with candy and small toys for the all the kids.
As we got older the piñatas and candy may have ceased, but the themed parties continued with The 80s, Black and White, Red Carpet (where you dress up as a celebrity or character from a movie), Hawaiian Luau, and so on.
Since my husband and I hosted Christmas this year we decided to make it fun and focus back on family togetherness instead of stressing about spending money on presents.
Our theme was Rockin’ Christmas!
The idea was to rock out with Rock Band, karaoke, and lip sync battles and although the lip-syncing didn’t happen we had plenty of the latter two!
We decorated a bit with musical notes and I made a Music Sheet Christmas Tree to go with our rock theme. The simple table decor was all from the Dollar Tree.
The food we served was made by Amber (from What Makes Me Amber) and I and there were music-related puns to name each dish.
Everything was delicious and we all had a blast without the usual exchange of presents. Most of us did purchase gifts for each other, but we wanted everyone to simply enjoy the company and look forward to spending quality time together instead of putting all the attention on the presents they had to open.
We celebrate together on December 24th (Noche Buena), which allowed us to open our gifts in our own homes the next day. The idea of not opening gifts in front of everyone may not work for all families, especially if there are a lot of children. We are all adults except for my 13 year-old brother so it worked out perfect because he was rockin’ it out all night!
Can’t end this post without pics of how our girls enjoyed our Rockin’ Christmas…
How did you rock this Christmas?
