When you open a book you expose a world full of wonder, knowledge, magic, and adventure that is often beyond our wildest imagination.
A great book can imprint itself in our heart for a lifetime and it is a story we look forward to reliving time and time again.
Sharing an incredible story with people we love can lead us to cherish the moment and make the time together unforgettable.
Children’s book author, Michelle R. Eastman, has a full grasp of the power behind books, which is why she founded Picture Book Pass it On (#PBPiO). #PBPiO is a call to action for donating new or gently used picture books to children in need.
Eastman encourages others to give to a children’s charity in their community. She then requests for them to challenge other people to do the same in their own neighborhoods by sharing in social media how they gave using #PBPiO.
#PBPiO goes on year round and during the month of March, Eastman holds a special book drive called MARCHing Books to Kids where books are collected for the Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa Storybook Project (VNS Storybook Project).
VNS Storybook Project trains volunteers to work with incarcerated parents/grandparents at correctional facilities in Iowa. Together they choose a book appropriate for their children from the VNS Storybook library (all from donations) and then the volunteer records the parent/grandparent reading the book to later provide the recording along with the book to the child.
Michelle R. Eastman,
YOU ARE PROFOUNDLY APPRECIATED
For you are cultivating moments that will be treasured in the children you reach with Picture Book Pass it On and MARCHing Books to Kids.
If you are a children’s book author like Eastman, she also encourages you to donate a signed copy of your book to be an example of passing it on.
If you don’t have any picture books to donate to #PBPiO you may either purchase one of Eastman’s books as a donation or you may donate any other type of book for children up to the age of 17 for MARCHing Books to Kids.
