“Finally on YouTube!”

– My Husband

Before starting my blog, I used to spend a lot of time (I still do) watching YouTube hair tutorials for hairstyle ideas. I have always liked to do my own hair and the only times I had someone else do my hair was for my Quinces, 8th grade prom, and senior prom; I have a talented aunt to thank for that πŸ˜‰

When my husband and I started dating (about 8 years ago now), he would constantly tell me to start my own YouTube channel to show the hairstyles that I do and would often get compliments on. But, I was intimidated.

All the women on YouTube doing hair tutorials are absolutely stunning with their makeup always on point! I have mentioned before, I am not a makeup person and felt too embarrassed to expose myself sans makeup for the world to see.

“You are beautiful! But what makes you even more beautiful is your heart. It is what I love most about you and others will, too. You are an inspiration!”

– My Husband (again)

Due to my husband’s endearing influence, I was stirred to move away from the norm and start doing hair tutorials with no makeup whatsoever! Partly, to represent my tag line,

“Cover my eyes so my heart can see”

And also to promote that beauty is from within so that we can learn to love ourselves just as we are.

Honestly, when I first played back the video I did not like what I saw and was judging every imperfection. I even doubted whether I still wanted to go through with doing videos with no makeup. But as I continued to watch the video multiple times while we were editing, I began to genuinely love what I was seeing.

I saw transparency, integrity, warmth, and compassion. I also saw physical qualities, lines, and marks that make my face truly one-of-a-kind; like a snowflake.

Now my heart is ignited to unfold before all of you and I hope that you can also learn to love YOU!

Here is the intro video:

Hair tutorials will follow πŸ™‚ Thumbs up and Subscribe if you would like to see more.

Self love, self respect, and self worth. There is a reason they all start with “self”. You can not find them in anyone else.

  1. What a beautiful sentiment. Take it from someone who has seen her fair share of picture perfect make up gurus – you have such a refreshing take on the whole genre. I wish more women were brave enough to Go Bare πŸ˜‰

    • Thank you so much! That is exactly what I want to exemplify; that we all have our unique features that we should feel confident about and let everyone (esp young people) know that true beauty resonates from within:)

  2. Ok, so before I compliment you and tell you freaking beautiful you are (ok, I guess I just did lol)…let me mention that I was like the idiot who pushed the door instead of pulling it. What do I mean by that? Well, I kept clicking on the above picture thinking it was your video. I kept wondering, why isn’t the video playing? lol…also, you have a thin accent (some people have very thick accents)…I love it and look forward to seeing more of your videos. I’ve been wanting to do videos as well but still planning the actual concept because I don’t like being in front of the camera lol.

    • Lol!! My husband figured people might think the picture is a video. I probably would have done the same lol! Thank you, Tasha, for the wonderful compliments ☺️
One of the things I was nervous about with being on camera was my accent; it used to be very thick so it’s nice to hear that it’s not anymore. Not that there’s anything wrong with accents, right ?
After Getting my feet wet with doing it, I don’t feel as nervous as I did in the beginning so if you ever decide to give it a go the initial anxiety may dissipate. Plus, you will have our support for sure!

  3. Nena, you have a beautiful spirit which shines through in your video. Congratulations, you’re going to be amazing. You’re such a natural in front of the camera and you have a generous heart, we can all see it. I wish you nothing but the very best. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Miriam:) I feel so encouraged with your words. I have been feeling a bit anxious about it, but reading comments like yours warms me and confirms that I am sending a positive message:)

  4. Oh my gosh Nena <3 I do love it! The quality (light, sound and so on) is great and you have such an adorable voice. I look forward to see your hairstyles. Send greetings to your husband – he did an amazing job in motivating you to do videos πŸ˜‰ :-*

    • My cheeks have turned red…literally lol Thank you, Sandra:) I hope that others can feel comfortable in their own skin because we are all uniquely beautiful:)

      • I am not 100% there yet, though I only wear mascara and eyeliner, so close. My eyes just look way to small without it. I did take a bare faced picture for some Facebook challenge a while back – I cheated a little and used the beauty face mode on my cell phone, it just softens the picture a little. πŸ™‚

  5. Congratulations on a job well done. Love your view of yourself (imperfections and all.) This is what health is about. It is not about perfection. Keep doing what you love and continue to share it with the world that cares about you.
