Move It Monday | Body Weight

Sneakers and blue leggings move it monday body weight exercises younfolded blog

We possess the best, state-of-the art equipment for working out; our body. We mostly think of cardio exercises like walking or running, but we can perform effective strength training with our own body weight.

Push-ups, sit-ups, and squats are just a few examples of body weight exercises that can tone muscles without the use of weights.

Using our own body weight allows the flexibility to workout anywhere, significantly reduces the risk of injury when compared to using weights, and works more than just one part of the body due the balance needed from our core to perform most of the exercises.

A great trick when doing some of the exercises is to pretend as though you are using weights by tightening the muscles and moving as though there is resistance. Even without weights, you will feel the muscles working and burning.

So let’s move that body!

Day 1

I rode my stationary bike for 10 minutes to warm-up and then I did the following lower body exercise:

It was funny working out to an animation, but the workout was great and I like trying new things to change it up.

Day 2

For a warm-up I jump roped for 10 minutes and followed with an upper body exercise:

Don’t let the video fool you! Your arms will be burning!

Day 3

I again did 10 minutes on the stationary bike and did this simple, but killer ab workout:

I went through the exercises for 10 minutes non-stop and my abs are still feeling it!

Bonus Exercise:

I did not get a chance to the following exercise, but I have done it in the past and it is an efficient full-body exercise:

  1. Hi Nena, I really love this post and how you highlighted the amazing benefits of doing strength training using one’s own body weight. I do Jillian Michaels’ Yoga Meltdown five times a week, where she mixes yoga poses with cardio. I’ve seen huge improvements in the three months I’ve been doing it, and then I found your Move It Monday posts – how cool! A great place to share ideas and get inspiration and motivation. I’ll be checking back on Monday for more. Have a great almost-weekend!

    • Jillian Michaels has incredible workouts! You go for doing them 5 times a week!! That is very impressive;) Thank you so much for your support, Gen:) Hope Move It Monday continues to motivate all of us to stay in motion. You have a wonderful almost-weekend as well!!

  2. Personally, on days I don’t go to the gym to train, I use my Total Gym at home as my resistance machine. It follows the concept you discuss. It uses my body weight and varying angles to maximize resistance. It is effective for toning and strengthening and does not require much time to satisfy these needs. It’s safe, provides full range of motion if desired and leaves you knowing your body just underwent a real exercise routine. I must disclose I was filmed in their commercial, but DO NOT receive any compensation for their product. I simply believe in this piece of home exercise equipment.
