Pay It Forward | Hurricane Matthew Relief Efforts

Hurricane Matthew relief efforts

Hurricane Matthew was passive in South Florida, but it wreaked havoc in other parts of the nation and internationally. Relief efforts have taken place across the globe and it has been a touching pay it forward atmosphere.

The company that I work for is providing a 2:1 matching donation for every dollar the employees donate to the following organizations:

Project HOPE

Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) was founded in the United States in 1958 as the famous SS HOPE hospital ship.

Now Project HOPE helps countries all across the globe in need of medical assistance.

Project HOPE’s mission:

To achieve sustainable advances in health care around the world by implementing health education programs and providing humanitarian assistance in areas of need.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army started in 1865 when London minister, William Booth, and his wife Catherine, formed together a “volunteer army” to reach “the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute.

Booth believed in the philosophy “soup, soap, and salvation” because he understood that meeting people’s physical needs, such as nourishment and safety, come before preaching to their souls.

The Salvation Army’s Mission:

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

I am proud to say I work for a company that acknowledges the importance of giving and encourages and rewards those who do so. Maybe your company might have a similar program worth finding out about.

There are also many other organizations that are involved with Hurricane Matthew relief efforts. The following are a few if you’re interested in getting involved:

American Red Cross

Save the Children

A huge thank you to those of you that have reached out to find out if my family and I were safe from Hurricane Matthew. We sincerely appreciate your thoughts and prayers 🙂 Let’s send those same vibes out to those that, unfortunately, got the worst of the storm.

Much Love,

  1. It sometimes requires emergencies to remind us the importance of helping others. It would also be nice to think we might consider offering to those in need when emergencies don’t exist. I don’t think people in general are selfish; I think they often get overwhelmed with their own personal situations. Stepping back and introspecting sometimes offers a perspective that helps re-focus on one’s life.
